Through history, psychology, popular culture, horror movies and humour, the Reverend Peter Laws asks why human culture seems so fascinated with the thought of a ‘beast inside us’. Peter, who loved scary movies before he ever set foot in a church, charts our changing relationship with werewolves, vampires and demons and shares how these once feared beasts have become objects of desire and even, liberation.

From Peter’s hunting of werewolves in Hull to meeting real life blood drinking vampires to the recent boom in requests for exorcism, he’ll unpack for some people how becoming a dangerous monster can be both frightening and surprisingly appealing.

Tickets £12 including a 20% donation toward a host of restoration projects at Kensal Green Cemetery.

Peter Laws is an author, podcaster, journalist and ordained church minister. His book ‘The Frighteners: Why We Love Monsters, Ghosts, Death and Gore’ is a globe trotting explanation (and defence) of the human morbid streak. It’s been described as ‘Songs of Praise meets Stephen King’. He is the creator of the Matt Hunter creepy crime fiction novels and has a monthly column in The Fortean Times magazine.
